Te Kimi and Shimi in Tunisia 2023
current events
As we head into the summer of 2025 we have quite a bit going on with the group. In a few days many of us are gathering in Wales to do some greenlaning and get to know some of our new members. For those bringing their desert trucks it is a good time to test out modifications and repairs made over the winter. We are also in the middle of planning our October Tunisia expedition and we have already started working on plans for an expanded expedition agenda for 2026. More on this below.
Wilders Gap Expedition 2025
Planning for our return to Tunisia to carry on the exploration of history surrounding the 1943 battle for the Mareth Line continues. We are currently working with our local support team to secure permission to enter the military zone around Wilders Gap and search for artifacts from the New Zealand Divisions’ famous left hook maneuver to outflank the German defenses on the coast.
We currently have 11 CAT 1 trucks (open top) signed up and 20 crew. There are still two co-driver seats still open, so if you can be free for most of October this year and want to join our crew, get in touch.
2026 EXPDITIONS
In 2026 we will be expanding the number of expeditions we offer each year. These will be a mix of CAT 1 (open top) and CAT2 (standard overland 4x4s). The tentative list below:
April 2026
Tunisia Tour -This will be a CAT 2 trip open to any well-prepped 4x4 vehicle. We will be taking a more relaxed tour of scenic Tunisia and visiting historic locations off the beaten path. We will be visiting some of the Star Wars sets, the desert oasis or Ksar Ghilane, the Grand Erg Orientale sand sea and the desert gateway of Douz.
October 2026 Pelican 16 Southern Morocco -This will be a mixed CAT 1 and CAT 2 expedition to visit the crash site of the SAAF Avro Shackelton aircraft lying in the southern deserts of Morrocco. The group will follow the Atlantic coast, beach camping and exploring the numerous shipwrecks before looping through northern Mauritania to reach the crash site.
November 2026 Libya Recce - In cooperation with Desartica, we are offering a chance to see the western deserts of Libya where Desartica has been running expeditions for several years as the situation there stabilizes. This first attempt will be a CAT 2 trip until we better understand the conditions and challenges.
Exact dates, costs and registration details will be coming out over the summer, but for anyone interested in the above, please feel free to get in touch and ask questions.
Events and Media
LRO Show 6&7 September Belvoir Castle - PPE will have a presence at the Classic Land Rover stand at the show, with a few our our desert vehicles parked in their area and we will be giving a presentation on our past and future expeditions, as well as lessons learned.
PPE Youtube Channel - We haven’t been posting much content on our Youtube channel as our documentary productions have been done through Travelbag Photography. But as we enter summer of 2025 you can expect more content about what we do, how we do it and what lessons we have learned along the way.
Overland Europe article -Keep an eye out for an article on PPE appearing in Overland Europe’s online magazine. The journal is quite keen to learn more about the very unique approach PPE has to traditional overlanding and hopefully encourage a new generation of adventurers to dump the heavily over-accessorized bling rigs they have built and opt for a more back to basics approach to expeditions.
